The next generation BMW X1 has been spotted in full metal for the first time since its unveil on June 3. Finished in the familiar chestnut bronze metallic color, the new BMW X1 features a re-designed exterior/interior, an all-new platform, and a revised engine lineup.

Compared to the first generation model, it measures 4,439 mm in length (36 mm shorter), 1,821 mm in width (21 mm wider), 1,598 mm in height (53 mm taller) and 2,670 mm in wheelbase.

The interior is also an improvement with respect to build quality and trim materials. The wood-adorned dashboard houses a freestanding LCD Control Display running BMW’s latest iDrive infotainment system, a Head-up Display, and an instrument cluster with a display underneath.

It comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel unit available in 3 power rates: an X1 sDrive18d with 150 hp/330 Nm, an X1 sDrive20d with 190 hp/400 Nm, and an X1 xDrive25d with 231 hp/450 Nm.

While the base sDrive18d features a 6-speed manual, the rest of the variants are paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The top-spec xDrive25d gets the xDrive AWD system as standard.

The 2016 BMW X1 will make its public debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September, before going on sale in Germany in October. The Indian market will get the new X1 in the first half of 2016, which will most likely follow the CKD channel.
