The exterior design is a drastic redo.

Spyshots showed this morning that TMT (Toyota Motor Thailand) has begun dispatching the 2016 Toyota Fortuner to dealerships in Thailand ahead of the world premiere on July 17, 2015.

The 2016 Toyota Fortuner debuts on July 17 in Thailand, and will get the new 2.4L and 2.8L GD diesel engines.

Now a second batch of vehicles have been spied in transit, with the factory wrap having come off, revealing the rear. The taillamps, at a first glance, resemble those on the Hyundai Elite i20. The slender units are connected by a chrome bar, a large roof spoiler sits atop, and the bumper, like the current gen, gets reflectors at the edges.

The 2016 Toyota Fortuner, from the design standpoint, is an overhaul, featuring a very modern floating roof design, curvier edges, and a chrome highlight along the window line to give it an upmarket look.

Design features like the slender taillamps and the floating roof are new to the Fortuner.

It is reported to come in four diesel variants, and one petrol model. The diesel variants get the new 'GD' diesel engine family which is made of 2.4- and 2.8-liter units, while the petrol variant bears the same 2.7-liter VVT-i from the previous generation.

Teasers of the 2016 Fortuner reveal a different interior (as compared to the Hilux Revo) with a vertically orientated center console and new color coordinated materials. The top-spec variant will get ABS, EBD, VSC, 7 airbags, smart entry, engine starter button, LED headlights, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment and electronic 4WD changeover switch, as they can be downloaded from the Hilux.

The new Fortuner for the Indian market is not expected to launch until the next financial year, but localization levels would be hiked as TKM (Toyota Kirloskar Motor) plans on manufacturing its engines at a new plant in Jigani, Karnataka.
