MQB-based Superb and sister-car VW Passat to launch in India next year.
Ahead of its launch next year, two units of the 2016 Skoda Superb were spotted testing in Aurangabad by Mr. Gaurav Wagh, where Skoda Auto India has its manufacturing plant.
The third generation Skoda Superb was revealed in February, and had its public premiere at the Geneva Motor Show. Based on the MQB platform, the Superb is 75 kg lighter than its predecessor despite having grown by 80 mm in wheelbase, 47 mm in width and 28 mm in overall length.
Underneath, for the European market, Skoda has announced five petrol engines and three diesel engines, all paired to a 6-speed manual or a DSG, and with a start-stop system as standard. All engines comply with EU6 emission norms and are expected to be 30 percent more efficient than the current model.
Dual-zone climate control or tri-zone climate control, Skoda’s SmartLink entertainment system with navigation and reverse camera, leather upholstery, cruise control, powered seats, sunroof, Bi-Xenon headlights and cornering lights are expected to be some of the features available on the model.
For the Indian market though, the Superb will likely be powered by a 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine paired to a DSG gearbox, though Skoda could also offer the 1.8-liter TSI variant, given that the current model is available with this engine.
