Global premiere to take place in India.
The Hyundai Creta, Hyundai's forthcoming global SUV based on the ix25, will mark its global premiere in India in the second half of this calendar year, with reports indicating a launch within a couple of months.
Hyundai said in a statement that the 'Creta' name will be used in 'world-over' markets, and according to a report on CarsGuide, Australia could be one of the several markets for the compact SUV.
Hyundai Australia spokesman Bill Thomas told the publication that it was too early to comment on an Australian launch for the Creta. However, the firm's Chief operating officer, John Elsworth, hinted that the Creta would fit well in the brand's portfolio, and offer formidable competition to the Honda HR-V (Honda Vezel) and Mazda CX-3.
Previously, Hyundai had dismissed the ix25 for the Australian market as it would achieve only a 4/5 star rating in the Australian NCAP crash test. However, Hyundai could beef up the safety aspect of the Creta for international markets.

It is for the same reason that Hyundai Australia has been holding back the launches of the new generation i10 and i20, the latter continues to be sold in its first generation avatar. While cars made at HMIL's Chennai plant will not adhere to the ANCAP 5-star rating, vehicles shipped from Hyundai's Turkish plant will score a 5/5, but will prove to be expensive owing to unfavorable currency exchange rates.
