Confirmed with seven seats and 1.5L petrol engine.

The production-spec BR-V is expected to premiere at the Auto Expo 2016.

The BR-V is described by Honda as its new generation crossover utility vehicle, and is developed by Honda R&D Asia Pacific Co., Ltd. (HRAP) in Thailand. The BR-V will primarily target the Asian market, Honda says in its statement. The BR-V is also the third model to be developed by HRAP.

The Honda BR-V is confirmed to offer seven seats in a 3-row configuration. Power for the SUV will come from a 1.5-liter petrol engine which will provide "sporty performance and great fuel efficiency", says Honda. This engine will be paired to two "advanced" transmissions.

Commenting on the design, Honda says the BR-V sports a "tough and solid" exterior, has high ground clearance with large alloy wheels and roof rails. Projector headlights, skid guards and body cladding are among the other features noticed in the sketches.

A 1.5-liter diesel engine will also be offered on the BR-V for the Indian market.

The BR-V is likely to be based on the Honda Brio's platform, and is the long-rumored SUV that will be launched by Honda Cars India. According to a previous report, the production-spec BR-V will have its premiere at the Auto Expo 2016 next year.

Naturally for the Indian market, the 1.5-liter petrol engine will be complemented by the 1.5-liter i-DTEC diesel engine as well.
