The Tiguan nameplate was introduced in 2007, and is presently assembled/manufactured at four locations across the world.

The front fascia sports a design unseen on current VW cars, with large headlight clusters, a dual-slat chrome grille, and a chrome garnished bumper with rectangular foglight enclosures. Over to the sides, certain areas like the doors and windows appear to have taken inspiration from the Taigun mini SUV concept, though the Tiguan is noticeable a much larger SUV.

The 2016 Tiguan will move to the modular MQB architecture, and a resulting weight loss is hence expected, aiding the new Tiguan to deliver better fuel efficiency and improved agility over its predecessor.

Power for the new Tiguan will come only from four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines.

Power will come only from four-cylinder TDI and TSI engines paired to manual and DSG gearboxes, and a standard front wheel drive and an optional 4MOTION all-wheel drive system. VW will also introduce a 7-seat variant on the new Tiguan, which according to reports, could premiere at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2016.
