The engine would be upgraded to 400 Nm of torque.

The Tata Safari Storme AT was snapped testing by a Team BHP member recently, the sticker on the rear windshield clearly identifying the transmission of the SUV.

Tata is likely to use a GM-developed 6-speed AT on the Storme.

Tata Motors is gearing up to launch the Safari Storme facelift which gets cosmetic exterior and interior updates, and a mild increase to its power output. However, the Storme facelift will continue with a 5-speed manual transmission, at least initially.

Tata Motors is reportedly working on introducing a 6-speed automatic transmission for utility vehicles like the Storme and the upcoming Hexa. The 6-speed gearbox would be sourced from General Motors, and would be in command of 400 Nm of torque on both cars (the current Safari Storme churns out 320 Nm of torque).

Tata is keen on introducing its new short diameter 3-spoke steering wheel on upcoming vehicles.

TeamBHP reports that the current 5-speed manual transmission on the Safari cannot handle the 400 Nm of torque, despite test mules having been spied with 'VariCOR 400' badges. These are likely to have been automatic transmission test mules as well.

Like the Storme facelift, the Storme AT will get the new 3-spoke short diameter steering wheel, a Harman sound system with integrated parking sensors and a new Land Rover-inspired grille.
