Next generation Suzuki Swift to get 1L turbocharged petrol engine - Report

The YRA in Europe will also get a mild-hybrid variant.

According to a report on Autocar India, the next generation Suzuki Swift will get the 1.0-liter turbocharged Boosterjet engine which Suzuki announced at the Geneva Motor Show this month. This engine will debut on the production version of the iK-2 concept (codenamed Maruti YRA) later this year, but future small cars like the Swift will also receive it.

Suzuki is yet to reveal the specifications of the Boosterjet engine.

The engine, which also gets direct-injection technology, is reported to deliver high fuel efficiency and come with weight savings thanks to an optimized layout and "various technologies to reduce weight", Suzuki said in a press release. The power and torque of this engine remain under wraps.

For the Chinese market, the same engine family will spawn a 1.4-liter turbocharged unit, which could be used on the SX4 S-Cross crossover and even the Ciaz (Alivio) sedan. However, Maruti is yet to confirm this engine for the Indian market.

The YRA premium hatchback is due to go on sale in India in the second half of this year, while sales in Europe will start early next year. For India, the YRA will be powered by petrol and diesel engines, whereas in Europe, a mild-hybrid version would also be introduced.
