The XC90 for the Indian market is powered by a 2.0-liter diesel engine.

The next generation XC90 is an all new product from ground up. It is the first of many Volvos to feature the company's latest modular SPA (Scalable Platform Architecture) platform, a new lineup of force-fed four cylinder engines, and a new design language that will influence next generation models.

Exterior wise, the Volvo XC90 has a new design that finally gives it a luxurious presence, as compared to the outgoing model. The front end is characterized by the large vertical slat chrome grille housing the proud Volvo logo with the signature diagonal slash, swept-back LED headlamps with "Thor hammer" DRLs, and a simple lower fascia comprising of air intakes and fog lamps. The long, sculpted engine hood compliments the simple-yet-bold front end of the XC90.

Coming to the side, the XC90 sits on standard 19 inch alloy rims (also available with optional 20 inch rims), which, along with the high waistline, lend to the bold stance of the large SUV. The XC90 measures at 4950 mm in length, 2008 mm in width and 1,776 mm in height and a wheelbase of 2984 mm.

At the back, the highlights are a long pair of LED taillights that Volvo compares to "tattoos", an integrated roof spoiler, and a silver under-plate housing a pair of exhaust tips.

The interior of the XC90 is unlike anything we have seen from Volvo in the past. The design cleverly combines a dual tone premium leather upholstery with the finest quality of Scandinavian wood trim and aluminum accents, in the simplest manner possible. The Inscription variant adds exclusive Nappa leather upholstery to the package, further improving the luxury quotient of the XC90.

It features a multifunction 3-spoke steering wheel placed in front of a 12.3 inch customizable instrument display. Thanks to the large dimensions, the XC90 is a 7-seater, with each passenger getting an independent storage bin and HVAC vent powered by a four-zone automatic climate control system.

For the new XC90, Volvo has integrated most of the functions into a large iPad-esque 9 inch central display powered by Volvo's Sensus infotainment software, which significantly reduced the button count. However, key functions are controlled by a neat arrangement of diamond-cut buttons underneath the display.

Other standard features include keyless entry, a panoramic sunroof, heads-up display (Inscription only), heated and ventilated seats and a 19-speaker 1400W Bowers & Wilkins music system.

The XC90 packs a 2.0-liter twin turbo D5 diesel engine delivering 225 hp at 4,250 rpm and 470 Nm of torque between 1750 - 2500 rpm. Paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission, power is sent to all four wheels via an AWD system. The XC90 D5 is capable of reaching a top speed of 230 km/h.

As with any Volvo, it does however come with a long list of standard safety features such as airbags, ABS with EBD, whiplash protection, traction control, ESC across the XC90 range. It also features a "world's first" off road protection package, which reduces injuries induced when a vehicle goes over rough terrain at high speed.
