The Tata Safari Storme facelift is likely to be launched this month. In this backdrop, MotorOctane.com has spied the interior of the SUV.

The absence of a storage space above the central AC vent, and new stitching on the steering wheel are two observed changes.

There are few visible changes one can spot from this new spyshot of the interior. There is a new gear knob, with an unusual shift pattern of R-1-2-3-4-5 layout. Technically known as “Dog-Leg” gearbox pattern characterised by an up-over-up shift between the first and second gears, the new layout contrasts the regular 1-2-3-4-5-R layout found in the Safari Storme. This shift pattern was spotted last in Sierra among Tata cars. It is unclear whether the gearbox of the spotted test mule is a 5-speed or a 6-speed.

The other cosmetic changes seen in the picture are the steering wheel with a new stitching, and the absence of storage space above the AC vents. The silver-finish control panel on the central console spotted in other spy images in the past is also missing.

The gear pattern of this mule is unlike the current Storme's.

We reported earlier that the top-spec Storme facelift may get the Harman Kardon music system with a redesigned 3-spoke steering wheel with buttons mounted on it, optional captain seats for the second row, and a forward-facing third row bench.

On the mechanical front, the new Safari Storme’s 2.2-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine apparently shows an increase of 20 PS and 80 Nm for an overall 160 PS max power and 400 Nm of max torque. The SUV, like currently, will be offered in 2WD and 4WD configurations.
