2015 will see the discontinuation of at least 6 Indian car models, mainly as the manufacturers in question are ready to launch successors for them.

1. Ford:

The Figo Aspire and the new Figo will continue the sales momentum for Ford India.

By the end of this year, Ford India will discontinue the Figo and the Classic in the domestic market, as the next generation Figo and Figo Aspire will be launched in their places. The Figo Aspire will launch first (reportedly in June), followed by the hatchback by the end of this year.

In their heyday, the Figo and the Classic (known as the Fiesta then) were volume-spinning models for Ford in India thanks to their frugal 1.4-liter diesel engine.

2. Maruti Suzuki:

The Ritz will be replaced by the forthcoming YRA.

Maruti will discontinue the Ritz, and in its place, launch a premium hatchback codenamed ‘YRA’. Already, production of the Ritz (called Splash in Europe) was stopped in Suzuki’s Hungarian plant which catered to the European market.

Sales of the Ritz has taken a beating over the last two years. Maruti sold 63,250 units of the Swift-based hatch in FY2012, but only 31,700 in FY2014. Though priced a shade cheaper than the Swift, the Ritz never managed to hog the limelight the same was as its sibling.

3. Tata Motors:

The Vista platform has given rise to the Bolt and Zest.

Sources told Economic Times that Tata Motors will discontinue the Vista, Manza and Sumo Grande/Movus within the next 3-6 months. The company would manufacture a maximum of 4,000-6,000 units of these cars to exhaust its inventory of parts, post which these models will be discontinued.

The recently-launched Bolt is seen as a successor to the Vista, while the Zest compact sedan has been giving Tata more volumes than the Manza mid-size sedan.
