The next 2 years is set to see Tata Motors make a renewed challenge to the current leader of the UV segment, Mahindra & Mahindra, with half a dozen models to be launched in stages.

The Tata Hexa is a reskinned Tata Aria, powered by a uprated 2.2L diesel engine producing 154.2 hp and 400 Nm.

A report on the Economic Times also suggests that projects in the pipeline for this segment include two that are jointly developed by Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover.

The range of vehicles is set to start off with the Tata Nexon, showcased at the Auto Expo 2014, which will be pitted against the Ford EcoSport, and extend all the way to premium crossovers. Expected to hit the stands in the festive season of 2016 (though the company had promised a production version 24 months after the concept's release), the Nexon is also reported to receive its design cues from the popular Range Rover Evoque.

The planned onslaught includes a premium crossover, titled the "Eagle" or "Hexa" expected between January and March 2016, that was showcased at the Geneva Motor Show; a sub-4 metre SUV, titled the "X104" or "Nexon" to be launched between August and November 2016; a rugged SUV called the "Raptor" or "X601" late in 2016, which is apparently a successor to the Sumo on a lightweight platform; and a premium SUV, developed jointly with Jaguar Land Rover, "Q501" (five-seater) and "Q502" (seven-seater) in the second half of 2017.
