First Mercedes to feature the 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine in a non-AMG tune.
The Mercedes G 500 4×4² concept has its public debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show today. According to the company, the recipe for the G 500 4×4² was pretty simple. One axle was taken away from the famed G 63 AMG 6×6, it was then blended with a newly-developed variable chassis and a series-production G Class body.
The G 500 4×4² is the first Mercedes to feature the regular version of the new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, and produces 422 PS, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The engine complies with EU 6 emission norms, says Mercedes.
According to Mercedes, the chassis of the near-production SUV concept is all-new, and comes with dual spring/damper struts and adjustable damping. The track has been widened by 299 mm in comparison to the regular G Class, and the 4×4² rides on large 22-inch 325/55 wheels.
The highly capable Geländewagen now comes with a 450 mm ground clearance, a fording depth of 1,000 mm and an approach and departure angle of 52° and 54° respectively.
According to reports, the G 500 4×4² could go on sale by the end of this year, for a price of upwards of 200,000 GBP (INR 1.91 crores).
