Both use diesel hybrid powertrains.

Along with showcasing the production version of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson, the Korean car maker has also included two hybrid versions based on the new SUV, namely the Hyundai Tucson 48V Hybrid Concept and the Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid Concept to its showcase. Both utilise diesel engines and electric motors in their powertrain.

The Tucson 48V Hybrid Concept uses a 2-litre diesel engine that makes 136 PS and a small 14 PS electric motor to assist it. The addition of an electric motor adds just 20 kg to the vehicle. The vehicle emits 109 g of CO2 per km, and a hybrid starter generator is also part of the mechanicals.

Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid Concept

The Tucson Plug-in Hybrid Concept uses a 115 PS 1.7-litre diesel engine mated to a powerful 68 PS electric motor. The combination emits an estimated 48 g of CO2 per km, and has a drivetrain layout where the engine powers the front wheels and the motor spins the rear wheels.

It comes with 4 driving modes, and can be driven for up to 50 km on electric power alone. The 10.7 kWh Li-ion battery can be recharged in two and a half hours using fast charge or in five hours from a standard power socket.
