The Hyundai ix25 will have the same 1.6-liter engines and transmissions from the Verna, it was reported.

“In the sedans, we have the full range from Eon to Elantra. However, we have only the Santa Fe in the premium SUV segment, which is one of the fastest growing segments in India. It’s our endeavour to complete the range,” Hyundai Motor India Ltd senior vice-president Rakesh Srivastava, told the newspaper. He refused to add specifics, but said the gap between the i20 Active and Santa Fe will be plugged with a product.

Hyundai will manufacture the car at the Chennai plant with a localization level of 90 percent.

Codenamed 'Hyundai GS', the ix25 may use another branding in India. A report last year said that the company is investing INR 1,000 crore into the project and is looking at a localisation of 90 percent. The car will be built at Hyundai's existing plant in Chennai.

The ix25 is only available in China, where it measures 4,270 mm long, 1,780 mm wide, and 1,630 mm tall, putting it in the same class as the Renault Duster and the upcoming Maruti S-Cross. The ix25 is likely to feature the same 1.6-liter MT/AT as the Verna but may not offer AWD.
