Should offer brisker and smoother performance.

Chinese car portal iFeng has published the first spyshots of an alleged upcoming top-spec Hyundai ix25. The model in question is the 1.6-liter turbocharged variant paired to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.

When launched, the ix25 would be the first B-Segment SUV to offer such type of a gearbox.

Currently the ix25 retails in China with two naturally aspirated engine - 1.6L and 2.0L - with the former producing 122.8 bhp/150.7 Nm and the latter producing 158 bhp/192 Nm. The 2.0L engine is optionally available with AWD, while both manual and automatic transmission are regular 6-speed units.

The ix25 is currently sold in China with 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes, with 1.6L and 2.0L engine options.

The 1.6-liter turbo engine is found on Hyundai's premium models like the Sonata and Veloster, whereas the seven-speed dual clutch transmission was launched commercially this year in Korea on the Verna, having made its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show last year. In Europe this year, the smoother and more fuel efficient gearbox will serve on the Hyundai Tucson and the Kia Cee'd.

While the exterior of the top-end Chinese ix25 shows nothing new, the sole difference is the 'TGDi' badge. The car is equipped with fabric seats and manual air conditioning, not unusual for a deluxe test mule.

The ix25 will be launched in India around September, an Indian media report said this week.

In India while the 1.6T petrol variant may not find many takers, the 7-speed dual clutch gearbox could offer the Hyundai the dual benefit of higher fuel efficiency and being another segment-first for a compact SUV.
