Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) will launch the i20 Active (the crossover variant of the Elite i20) in New Delhi today, making India the first market for the car. Eventually, the i20 Active will go on sale in other international markets as well, HMIL officials confirmed to Indian Autos Blog.

The i20 Active competes with cars like the Fiat Avventura, VW Cross Polo and Toyota Etios Cross.

The i20 Active will be available with a petrol and a diesel engine, both carried over from the Elite i20. Engineers have improved the low- and mid-range torque delivery of these units by 6 percent for the petrol and 11 percent for the diesel.

According to ARAI tests, the i20 Active petrol is good for 17.19 km/l while the diesel returns 21.19 km/l. These figures are slightly lower than the Elite i20 thanks to the 15 kg extra weight the Active carries.
