Codenamed BMW G01, the next generation X3 will be based on the RWD CLAR platform that will underpin next generation models from the 3 Series and upward. The new platform will make use of carbon fiber in load-bearing areas, helping reduce weight by up to 100 kg over the current generation.

The interiors, as with every generation change, would be improved, and one can expect the new X3 to offer more room for passengers, as well as more flexibility and comfort with the seats.

For its powertrain, BMW could offer a new engine lineup for the next generation X3, which ranges from fuel-efficient three-cylinder engines to straight-six engines for top-spec variants. Being based on the CLAR platform, it will retain the 2WD system for base models, while the xDrive AWD system will be featured in top variants.

Similar to the X4, the new design of the X3 could be revealed as a concept months before the production spec model breaks cover. The Indian market will also get the next generation X3, assembled from CKD kits imported into the country, about 8 months from the time of its global market launch.
