Expected to offer best-in-class features and infotainment system.
Ford India unveiled the Indian-spec Ford Figo Aspire at the inauguration of the new vehicle assembly and engine plants in Sanand, Gujarat last week. The new Figo Aspire will be the first product to roll out of the plant, later followed by the Figo hatchback.
Talking about the interior, the new Ford Figo Aspire is expected to offer best-in-class features and infotainment system. The sub-4m sedan comes with a two tone interior – beige leather seats and black dashboard. The center console is a major step up from the previous Figo, appearing nearly identical to the EcoSport and Fiesta sedan. It features piano black trim, and houses large buttons and dials required to navigate through the SYNC infotainment system.
A new 3-spoke steering wheel now comes with buttons for both the music system and Bluetooth function. The lower part of the center console houses the HVAC dials, 12v power socket, USB and AUX cable slots.
The rear legroom of the Figo Aspire seems to look promising, given its sub-4m length. It comes with rear power windows and a foldable armrest, if there isn’t a fifth passenger to accommodate.
While most rivals offer only driver and passenger airbags, the new Figo Aspire will offer not one, not two, but six airbags (only in Titanium trim). Other than the front airbags, the passenger and driver will get seat airbags, and a pair of curtain airbags.
On the exterior design front, the new Figo is identical to the Ford Ka sold in Brazil. It sports a new design that falls inline with Ford’s latest design philosophy, as seen in the now-familiar Aston Martin-esque grille; swept back headlamps; and an upright front-end. The rear is characterized by a bold chrome bar connecting a pair of wrap-around taillamps.
According to reports, Ford is expected to launch the Figo Aspire in June 2015; available with two engine options: a 1.2-liter TiVCT petrol engine and a 1.5-liter diesel engine. A 1.5-liter petrol with a dual-clutch automatic transmission is also expected, perhaps at a later stage, as the company specifically stated “two responsive and economical engines” in the announcement.
