The 4.3 meter long S-Cross will debut Maruti's entry in the crossover/compact SUV space.

The SX4 S-Cross will be the first crossover from the brand, and will be priced to rival the Renault Duster and the Nissan Terrano mainly. Already on sale in markets like Europe, the S-Cross measures 4.3 meters in length, 1.76 meters in width and 1.57 meters in height.

The S-Cross on sale in Europe is powered by 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, the latter being sourced from Fiat. Suzuki also offers the car with a standard front wheel drive layout, and an optional all-wheel drive system. The engine specifications, or even the option of 4WD, are yet to be announced for the Indian market.

Before the S-Cross's launch though, Maruti intends to enter the sub-compact diesel segment with a diesel variant on the Celerio. Reports have indicated that the Celerio diesel will be powered by the company's self-developed 800 cc engine, and could offer industry-leading fuel efficiency.

The Celerio diesel will be the most affordable diesel-powered Maruti passenger vehicle when it goes on sale in April this year. Its chief rival will be the Chevrolet Beat diesel, which is powered by a 1.0-liter three-cylinder unit.
