To be launched this year.

The Mahindra S101 was recently spotted by IAB reader Felix Jude near Chengalpet on the outskirts of Chennai. To be positioned against premium hatchbacks Maruti Swift and Hyundai Elite i20, the crossover would be the first such Mahindra in the market.

The S101 will rival premium hatchbacks and their cross versions.

And its proximity to the cars doesn't just end there. It will feature a monocoque structure, a well proportioned body (as can seen from the spy pictures), and a range of newly developed 1.2-litre three cylinder petrol and diesel engines, and the possibility of an automated manual transmission.

Previous spyshots have also revealed a centre console mounted gear stick and a bench-type seat at the front. It will be the second Mahindra utility vehicle (after the XUV500) to have a monocoque structure, and is the smallest of them all.
