A new e-4WD variant could be introduced.

The refreshed Hyundai Santa Fe was spotted testing in Korea recently, ahead of a launch which could take place later this year. Having launched a model year update for the SUV in its home market last year, the Korean car maker is looking to introduce cosmetic changes now, which based on the camouflage could be focussed around the front fascia.

The refreshed Santa Fe is also expected to come with mechanical changes.

Interestingly, the report mentions that the Santa Fe facelift could get an e-4WD system which sees an electric motor mounted on the rear axle of the car. The gasoline engine will be in charge of the front wheels whereas the motor takes care of the rear wheels. Additionally, a regenerative braking system will also be fitted on the car, says the report.

Another European report mentioned that Hyundai would be looking to upgrade the engines/transmissions on the Santa Fe, predictably to ones that emit fewer CO2 emissions and return increased efficiency.

The Santa Fe was launched in India in February last year at the Auto Expo. For the Indian market, the SUV is available with a 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine with 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
