Expected to launch within two years.

Volvo is readying the second generation XC60, expected to be launched within two years. WorldCarFans has published a speculative rendering of the same, with a front end that mimics the India-bound Volvo XC90. The 'Thor's Hammer' headlamp, new iron mark riding on the larger grille, and aggressive-looking front bumper are carried over from the XC90, while the car is shown with a shorter side profile.

The next-generation Volvo XC60 will be based on the company's SPA platform, and employ a three-cylinder petrol engine.

The next generation XC60 will be based on the company's SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform, like the above mentioned XC90 and the S90 sedan which will replace the ageing S80, later this year. The latter will also spawn the estate version V90.

The report states that a performance Polestar variant for the XC60, currently unavailable, is being considered. As for powertrain choices, the XC60 will benefit from a new, lightweight 3-cylinder petrol engine that can make up to 180 hp, successfully test fired last month. It will be joined by the 2-litre 4-cylinder Drive-E engine that Volvo introduced across the complete Volvo lineup last year, including the XC60, on higher variants.
