Omits curtain and side airbags.

The Proton Suprima S Standard, the new entry level variant of the premium hatchback, has been launched in Malaysia at RM 69,438 (around INR 12.27 lakhs) which is roughly RM 7,000 (around INR 1.23 lakhs) cheaper than the Executive mid-variant. The vehicle was spotted on a trailer a few days earlier.

The feature deletions have resulted in weight saving of 10 kg.

Based on the Executive variant, the Suprima S Standard forgoes numerous features to arrive at a competitive price point. On the outside, the new base variant omits the LED infused headlamps, fog lights and the engine cover.

Inside, the immediately noticeable difference comes from the centre console which now sports a Panther Grey finish as against the Executive's Onyx black treatment. Also, the Android-based Proton Infotainment System with a 7-inch LCD display has been removed in favor of a 2-DIN audio system. Also gone are the steering mounted audio controls.

The omission of side/curtain airbags and ESC means that the new variant won't have the higher variants' 5-star ANCAP rating.

Coming to the safety equipment, the Standard makes do without the Electronic Stability Control, traction control, brake assist, hill/hold assist and side/curtain airbags. Dual front airbags and ABS with EBD are a part of the standard kit. As a result of these deletions, the Suprima S Standard is not only more affordable than the Executive trim but is also lighter by 10 kg.

The car will be made available throughout the country starting from December 18.
