The 2015 Nissan X-Trail breaks free from the boxy design of the previous generation version.

The vehicle is based on Renault-Nissan’s Common Module Family (CMF) architecture, and is targeted at the same demographic as the Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5. It offers a 7-seater (5+2) capacity but fold the third row down and you’ll get 550 litres of boot space. The second row can be folded to further increase the loading capacity to 1,520 litres.

On the mechanical front, the base 2WD version is powered by a 2-litre petrol engine that makes 142 hp of power at 6,000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm. The more powerful 2.5-litre engine comes with an all-wheel drive system as standard, and makes 168 hp of max power at 6,000 rpm and 233 Nm of max torque at 4,000 rpm. The all-wheel drive system aside (the 2WD is front wheel drive), both engines use the same CVT automatic gearbox.

Malaysia-spec car comes with driver aids like Vehicle Dynamics Control, ABS (with brake assist), Active Chassis Control package, Hill Start Assist, and Hill Descent Control (AWD only). There’s a reverse camera which makes parking the SUV easy, and dual airbags are standard on both models.
