To be unveiled next year.

Hyundai's plans to launch a revamped version of the Elantra sedan (Avante in certain markets) was revealed a few days ago. The next-generation Elantra is likely to be launched in Korea next year and will reach markets like India in 2016. A test mule of the car was caught recently, pictures of which were published by Auto Sohu.

The 2016 Hyundai Elantra is expected to feature the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language.

Covered under a good amount of camouflage, there's not much that can be said about the fine details. But the overall shape remains the same, it's still flaunting a coupe-like roofline, and most likely the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language. The heavy dose of cladding hides essentials, but the headlamps appear to be located a little lower than the current car, suggesting a sleeker front end.

The pictures show a slightly thick C pillar, while the sloping roofline and the upward-curved window line is similar to what the current car offers. The rear lights might have received an LED treatment, the report suggests.

The new Elantra looks similar to the current generation model overall.

It's too soon to tell if the car has received any mechanical upgrades, but considering Hyundai is pretty serious in improving its products' vehicle dynamics, it won't be surprising if the car gets an updated chassis and suspension setup. The car will eventually make it to the Indian market as well, but before that, the slightly refreshed Elantra (launched last year in South Korea) is likely to be made available.

The Elantra manages about 300 units per month, which is the second spot in its segment with the new Toyota Corolla Altis leading the segment. Two engine options, a 1.8-litre petrol and a 1.6-litre diesel, are available, both of which can be specced with either a 6-speed manual or automatic gearboxes.

Competitors: Toyota Corolla Altis, Skoda Octavia, Chevrolet Cruze
Expected price: INR 13 lakh onward, ex-Showroom
Launch date: 2015 (Korea)
