The petrol engine is the 1.4-litre K-Series petrol motor which is also available in the Ertiga. The four-cylinder motor puts out 92.45 PS (91.14 bhp) and 130 Nm of torque, and comes mated to a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed AT.

The diesel engine is the familiar 1.3-litre DDiS (Fiat MultiJet) unit which delivers 90 PS (88.7 bhp) and 200 Nm of torque. The oil burner is available only with a 5-speed MT.

The USP of the Maruti Ciaz is its frugal nature irrespective of the engine. The petrol motor returns an ARAI certified economy of 20.73 km/l when mated to the manual gearbox and 19.12 km/l when paired to the automatic transmission. The diesel, at an ARAI figure of 26.21 km/l, emerges as the nation's most fuel efficient car.
