IAB Report - Chevrolet Beat/Spark records worldwide sales of 1 million units

Over 178,000 units sold in India.

General Motors announced today that worldwide sales of the Chevrolet Beat (Chevrolet Spark in international markets) crossed the 1 million figure.

The Beat facelift was launched in India at the Auto Expo this year.

The small car was introduced to India in 2010, and at the Auto Expo this year, the facelift was launched. GM India has sold over 178,000 units of the Beat in India since its inception. Recently, the company started exporting the Talegaon-made Beat to Chile in South America, and going forth, more export markets are under consideration including Africa.

The small car is available in 71 markets worldwide, selling the most in South Korea, followed by the United States and Mexico. In the U.S. sales of the Beat are up 10 percent year to date, according to GM.

The Beat is the first car to be exported by GM India. India is the only country to sell a diesel version.

The Beat is available with diesel, petrol and LPG powertrains in India. The 1.0-liter three-cylinder diesel engine which makes 56 bhp and 142.5 Nm of torque delivers a fuel efficiency of 25.44 km/l. The 1.2-liter four-cylinder petrol making 79.3 bhp and 108 Nm of torque claims 18.6 km/l. All variants get a 5-speed manual transmission.
