Debut expected in the following months.

The second generation of the entry level BMW 1 Series has been soldering on without any visual update since its global launch in 2011.

The facelift (Life Cycle Impulse as BMW call it) is already due and contrary to media expectation, the updated luxury hatchback was neither shown at the Geneva Motor Show nor at the Paris Motor Show.

Here is a speculative rendering of the BMW 1 Series facelift which attempts to make the current car's controversial design a thing of past. Test mules of the vehicle continues testing in Europe and is expected to be revealed in 2015.

Going by the rendering, the updated hatchback would sport redesigned headlamps, front bumper and a tweaked kidney grille, similar to the 2 Series. Changes to the sides will be minimal while the rear, as suggested by the latest spyshots, will get a wider hatch door, revised taillight graphics and a new bumper.

Powertrain options would continue untouched. The India-spec model is available in 116i and 118d variants. The petrol version is powered by a 1.6-litre unit which has 136 PS and 220 Nm on tap, and the oil burner makes 143 PS and 320 Nm of torque.
