Dubbed as the "one of the most advanced saloon cars in the world", the Mercedes-Benz S500 Plug-in Hybrid is based on the standard S500 LWB, and is the third hybrid model in the growing S-Class line-up. It shares the AMG Sports pack with S500L that includes a sporty body kit and 19-inch rims, and standard LED lighting throughout the car.

Under the hood is a bi-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine generating 333 bhp coupled to an electric motor that produces an extra 116 bhp, offering a combined output of 442 bhp and 650 Nm of torque.

Thanks to the hybrid system, the powerful S500 Hybrid returns an impressive 35.71 kmpl (in the UK driving cycle) and emits only 65 g/km of Carbon Dioxide, thus exempting it from road tax as well London's congestion charge. However, if you do like to floor it, it will reach 0-100 kph in 5.2 seconds, before hitting a limited top speed of 250 km/h.

With an 8.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, Mercedes claims that the hybrid can run solely on electricity for 20 miles. Unlike its predecessors, the lithium batteries can be recharged completely in two hours using a three-phase power point.
