Nitol Niloy Group, the sole importer and distributor of Tata vehicles in Bangladesh has launched the Tata Nano at 800,000 Takas (around INR 6.23 lakhs).

The Nano is priced at T 800,000 (INR 6.23 lakhs).

The Nano will be imported to the neighboring nation as a CBU from the Sanand plant. The high price is a result of a hefty 45% supplementary tax that is levied by the Bangladeshi government for import of cars with engine displacement less than 700 cc.

While Nitol Niloy Group, on the sidelines of launch, urged the government to lift the supplementary tax for the Nano, the top government officials present at the event encouraged the company to locally assemble the hatchback.

The little Nano is powered by a 624 cc two-cylinder petrol engine that generates 38 PS (37.4 bhp) and 51 Nm of torque. Transmission is a 4-speed unit.

The top-end Nano Twist offers power steering.

Feature list of the top end variant includes power steering, front power windows, lockable glove boxes and a music system.

The budget hatchback clearly fell short of the company's expectations and is currently undergoing an image transformation from the "world's cheapest car" to a "smart city car".
