The SX4 S-Cross is the first jointly developed product from MSI and SMC.

A report on the Economic Times states that Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) will pay lesser royalty to parent Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) starting with the upcoming compact crossover, the SX4 S-Cross. The reason is that MSI's engineers will enhance their role in the development of products henceforth.

MSI will pay parent SMC lesser royalty for the S-Cross.
MSI is investing INR 2,000 crore on a R&D facility and a test track in Rohtak, Haryana, which will be used for the development of new models. MSI's Chief Financial Officer, Ajay Seth, told analysts that jointly developed products will have an equal apportionment of royalty between MSI and SMC.

Mr. Seth confirmed that the upcoming crossover will be the first case of a joint development, and therefore royalty paid by MSI to SMC will be lower than the normal rate. The official's statement indicates that the S-Cross could have some India-specific design or mechanical changes.
