The new X6 revealed already in photos was to debut at the Moscow Motor Show later this month.

Autocar UK reports that BMW deems it appropriate to launch the next-generation BMW X6 at the Paris motor show in October instead of the Moscow Motor Show that happens later this month. A BMW spokesperson says the change was to align the launch with the higher number of potential customers at Paris. The car expected to go on sale in UK (possibly its first RHD market) by December at £51,150 (INR 53 lakh) for the base model.

Following its internet reveal in June, the new X6 entered production in USA last week.

The X6 is a very successful product for BMW selling more than a quarter of a million units globally over its six-year production period. The second-generation X6 was jointly developed along with the new X5 and is being produced alongside at the Spartanburg plant in South Carolina.

BMW continues to retain the previous generation’s bold lines but has worked very hard to reduce its flab: the fenders are plastic composite, the hood is aluminum, and a magnesium cross brace behind the dashboard. All this along with an increased usage of high-strength steel has increased torsional rigidity and cut weight by 40 kg.

The X6’s time in the gym is apparent in the fresher, tighter body work showing its new muscles. The overall design might seem evolutionary over the previous gen but X6 is definitely a rebel compared to the conventional SUV looking X5.

BMW say the launch was pushed to the Paris Motor Show in October as a move seeking more potential customers.

The BMW X6 will have three engine options at launch - one petrol and two diesels - and all come along with a standard-fit eight speed transmission mated to the BMW proprietary xDrive four-wheel drive system.

The new X6 is likely to debut in India in the first half of 2015.
