The next generation Q7 is expected to weigh 360 kg less compared to today's model.

Based on the VW Group's MLB architecture, the new Q7 is expected to weigh about 360 kg less compared to today's model. The weight loss is reported to have come from the use of high-tensile strength aluminium in the SUV's construction.

While some existing engines will be carried over to the new Q7, Audi could use the SUV's launch to debut their new 3.0-liter TDI V6 Clean Diesel engine which is Euro 6 compliant. The engine, which was revealed in May this year, is capable of producing 268 bhp and 600 Nm of torque, according to Audi. Compared to the current 3.0-liter V6 TDI, the Clean Diesel is up to 13 percent more fuel efficient and emits 15 fewer grams of CO2 per km.

The Q7 in India is assembled at the company's Aurangabad facility from CKD kits. The same arrangement would continue when the new Q7 arrives in India sometime next year.
