The Tata Zest compact sedan will launch in early-August. The ailing Indian automaker is pinning high hopes on the spiritual Tata Manza successor to take on the current best selling car in India, the Maruti Swift Dzire, and the big-selling Honda Amaze and the Hyundai Xcent.

Here is a walkaround video of the Tata Zest from the Geneva Motor Show this year which offers a short tour of the sub-4 metre sedan. Unveiled at Auto Expo 2014, the Tata Zest is based on an extensively modified Manza platform. The Zest's exterior and interior design are clearly several notches above its predecessor.

The compact sedan is bestowed with upmarket features such as HID headlight, LED daytime running lights, reverse parking camera, touchscreen multimedia infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, etc. The quality, fit and finish of the cabin is visibly better than the Manza.

The Zest is the first of the two new product launches from Tata Motors this year.

The 1.2-litre Revotron turbocharged petrol engine will make its debut in the Zest. The engine puts out 88.2 bhp (90PS) and 140 Nm of torque which can be accessed in three different driving modes - City, Eco and Sport. A 5-speed manual gearbox handles the transmission duty.

The 1.3-litre Quadrajet (Fiat Mutijet) diesel in its 88.2 bhp (90 PS)/ 200 Nm avatar will be borrowed from the Manza. While regular variants would be offered with a 5-speed manual, Tata has announced that an AMT variant would also come.
