Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) has announced that it will launch the Honda Brio as its new entry-level car in that region. In Philippines, Honda’s lineup starts with the new City (priced from 756,000 PHP) and then moves to the new Jazz (starting at 768,000 PHP). The Brio will slot in the E-Category (Economy) which is reported to be the fastest growing segment in Philippines.
Toshio Kuwahara, HCPI President and General Manager, confirmed that the Brio for Philippines will be brought from Thailand as completely built units (CBU). The hatchback will get power from a 1.3-liter four-cylinder petrol engine making 100 PS and 127 Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual or automatic transmission will send the drive to the front wheels.
The Brio in Philippines will compete with the Hyundai i10 and Mitsubishi Mirage. The hatchback is expected to start at 500,000 PHP in Philippines (INR 6.88 lakhs).
Honda Thailand introduced a mild update to the Brio last year which saw the inclusion of a rear wiper and washer and the option of a company fitted navigation system. These updates are yet to find their way in the Brio sold in India however.
Competitors: Hyundai i10, Mitsubishi Mirage
Expected Price: 500,000 PHP (INR 6.88 lakhs)
