Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, member of the Board of Management of Audi AG and head of Audi’s Technical Development, earlier told Indian Autos Blog that the 2015 Audi Q5 will make its global premiere this year. The second refresh for the Q5 is aimed at keeping the model fresh until the arrival of an all-new product sometime in 2016.

Here is a speculative rendering of the next gen Audi Q5 which derives design cues from the brand’s recent crossover design concepts like the Audi Crosslane Coupe and AllRoad Shooting Brake.

2015 Audi Q5 rendering
The 2016 Audi Q5 will get a comprehensively redesigned front fascia.

The net result is a completely reworked front fascia with a sportier appeal. The new three-dimensional hexagonal front grille with possible chrome treatment has pronounced edges, accommodating horizontal chrome slats embedded in glossy black inserts. The new bumper incorporates a massive airdam and the narrow headlamps would feature LED Matrix technology on the higher variants.

The side of the SUV would not witness much of a change while the rear fascia is expected to adopt revised elements to complement the new front end. The interior is expected to undergo significant changes in addition to new equipment.

Under the skin, the 2016 Audi Q5 would be based on the VW Group’s flexible MLB platform. Four- and six-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel engines mated to manual and automatic transmissions would be on offer.

The India-spec Audi Q5 is being assembled at VW Group’s CKD assembly plant in Aurangabad and hence the next gen model should be launched in India shortly after its international debut.

As of now Audi India is just days away from launching the entry level luxury sedan, the A3 Sedan.

Competitors: BMW X3, Mercedes ML Class, Land Rover Discovery Sport

Expected Price: INR 45 – 60 lakhs, ex-showroom

Audi better hope it has reworked the dash because, although very tasteful, it’s a bit dated & the SatNav is too small for modern times. The dash resembles the Q7 which hasn’t been redesigned in 10 years. In fact, Audi has neglected their mid & upper range for too long. Concentrating solely on A3, S3, Q3, SQ3, A1, etc. Whereas the A3 is selling well, if Audi continues to neglect it’s upper end, folks might begin to see it as a Volvo, Peugeot, Saab level car, as it was in the 80s. After all, Merc not only brought out a low end CLA, but also totally redesigned the C-Class, and even a new S-Class. The GL has been redesigned whilst the Q7 has not. Audi is too new to this market to be so neglectful.
