The Mobilio made its Indian premiere at the 2014 Auto Expo.

The 7-seat compact MPV based on the Brio platform will be the third diesel Honda in the country. The Mobilio's primary rival would be the Maruti Ertiga whose sales between January and May 2014 stood at 25,612 units with a monthly average of 5,122 units.

Honda will position the Mobilio as a private family vehicle, slightly more expensive than the Ertiga but more affordable than the Innova. According to the company, the Indian MPV segment clocks around 12,000 units per month.

The three row-MPV will borrow its petrol engine from the new City. The 1.5-litre i-VTEC motor puts out 119 PS and 145 Nm of torque and just like the City, it could come mated to a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox. The diesel engine would be the 1.5-litre i-DTEC mill that is also found in the Amaze and the City. Paired only to a manual gearbox, the motor that is known for its frugality produces 100 PS and 200 Nm of torque.

Riding on the success of the Amaze and the new City, Honda has sold 72,893 units in the first five months of 2014 and the introduction of the Mobilio is expected to further increase the automaker's quantum of business.
