The 2015 Ford Edge had its world premiere today, ahead of a market launch that will take place early next year in the U.S. Now in its second generation, Ford wants to sell the SUV across the globe, and hence for the first time, Edge will also be available in right hand drive configuration.

However, Ford has no plans to launch the Edge in India, as the price-segment of the Edge is occupied by larger 7-seat off-roaders. Hence, Ford will continue to sell the Endeavour in India, and update it sometime next year with the next generation model.

The new Edge gets several interesting features such as a smart glovebox with an integrated knee airbag, blind spot detection system, lane keeping assist, inflatable rear seat belts, Active Grille shutters, an 8-inch touchscreen display with Ford's SYNC multimedia system, 180-degree camera and curve control with roll stability control.

The new Edge will go on sale in 100 markets.

The Edge will be offered with three engine options in the U.S. They start with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost (twin-scroll turbo) producing 245 bhp, a 2.7-liter V6 EcoBoost with 300 bhp and a naturally-aspirated 3.5-liter V6 whose power output is not yet disclosed (the motor produced 285 bhp in the old Edge). All engines are matched to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
