Fiat India launched the refreshed 2014 Linea back in March this year. These spyshots suggest that Fiat could introduce a base variant on the refreshed Linea targeting a lower starting price. Note that this could also be an older test mule that hasn't finished its work in the field.

The 2014 Linea could get a new base variant.

The test mule seen here wears black bumpers and inside, the music system is missing (Fiat Linea offers a CD/MP3 player as standard). If launched, this variant of the Linea could be priced well below INR 6.99 lakhs which is the current ex-Showroom price of the base Linea Active. The model could be positioned between the 2014 Linea Active (INR 6.99 lakhs) and the Linea Classic (INR 5.99 lakhs).

While details are very sketchy, the base 2014 Linea could source its power from the 1.4-liter naturally-aspirated petrol engine which produces 90 PS at 6,000 rpm and 115 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm and comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The engine is good for an ARAI rated 14.9 km/l.

Of late, sales of the Linea have seen a slump.

Sales of the Linea have taken a hit post the launch of the refreshed model. In March, the Linea accounted for 664 units for Fiat India while subsequent months of April and May saw sales drop to 281 units and 229 units respectively.
