The CLA Shooting Brake is a variant based on the CLA sedan, which in turn is based on the A Class hatchback. As the spyshots reveal, the Shooting Brake carries styling cues of the CLA until the C-Pillar, after which the design of the boot seems influenced by the CLS Shooting Brake.

Like the CLA and A Class, the CLA Shooting Brake will be based on the MFA front-wheel drive platform. Engine options for the Shooting Brake would be carried over from the CLA Class which is powered by four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. A performance-oriented AMG model could also be in the reckoning.

In terms of positioning, the CLA Shooting Brake will slot above the CLS Class, but below the C Class estate which was announced a couple of days ago. The CLA Shooting Brake is one of 12 all new cars planned by the German carmaker until 2020. Other new models include the MLC SUV and the AMG-GT sportscar.
