Sales of the Maruti Swift, Maruti Dzire and Honda Amaze declined for the first time last month. Maruti saw sales of the Dzire fall by 17.67 percent to 16,008 units while sales of the Amaze dropped by 30.85 percent to 3,355 units. The Swift's sales declined by 4 percent to 15,874 units. Maruti says that sales figures vary on different factors including short-term stock correction.

Sales of the Honda Amaze fell by 30 percent last month.

Honda attributes the drop in sales to seasonality and the fact that they have had to adjust their production volumes in favor of the City. Given that the waiting period for the new City is much higher than the Amaze, Honda has had to produce more volumes of the City to ensure faster delivery. Another viewpoint to the fall in Amaze's sales is that the compact sedan is facing internal competition from the larger City.

Both, the Dzire and Amaze are facing the heat from the newly-launched Hyundai Xcent though. The Xcent overtook the Amaze to become the second best selling compact sedan last month with sales of 6,663 units. In terms of pricing, the Xcent undercut both its competitors with prices starting at INR 4.66 lakhs ex-Showroom, New Delhi.
