A Land Rover official confirmed that the Discovery family, previewed by the concept shown here, could spawn more than 3 models.

A report on Autoexpress quotes Land Rover design studio director Richard Woolley who says that the Discover family will evolve into a family of vehicles over time. The Range Rover family for instance, has three models - Evoque, Sport and Range Rover.

The Discovery Vision concept made its debut at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show.

Woolley is also quoted as saying that a model that will sit under the Range Rover Evoque is something worth looking at, reiterating that whatever model is developed, it should have the best off-roading capability. This SUV, reportedly, is in the same league as the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3 and, if launched, will also compete with the Mercedes GLA.

The company's research senior manager, Dai Jones, has been quoted as saying that some of the features showcased in concept vehicles - like the transparent bonnet - are certainly doable, along with having a challenge of making it commercially viable. The All Terrain Progress Control feature is also closer to hitting the market, Jones says, along with an off-road guidance coach with voice assistance and video instructions.
