Unlike the older X5 that was brought into the country as a CBU, BMW will assemble the new X5 out of CKD kits in its Chennai plant.

While the older X5 was a CBU unit in India, the upcoming SUV will be a CKD unit from the start. BMW had confirmed this during the unveiling at the Auto Expo 2014. As for the manufacturing of the SUV, BMW produces the X5 in its fullest only at its Spartanburg facility in USA.
