The Tata Bolt is due to launch by the end of this year.

Based on the X1 platform, the Bolt is a heavily redesigned Tata Vista aiming to compete with the Maruti Swift, Hyundai i20 and VW Polo. While the side profile of the Bolt may look identical to the Vista, the rear end of the Bolt sports an all-new look thanks to the redesigned taillights.

Inside, designers have given the hatchback a new dashboard which claims to offer better build quality than existing Tata products.

The Bolt will get Tata's new Revotron petrol engine.

Power for the Bolt will come from a new petrol engine, and an existing diesel motor. The petrol motor is Tata's all-new 1.2-liter turbocharged Revotron engine which outputs 85 PS at 5,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque between 1,750-3,000 rpm.

The diesel engine is the tried-and-tested 1.3-liter Fiat Multijet producing 75 PS and 190 Nm of torque. Both engines are announced to feature a 5-speed manual gearbox, though an AMT (automated manual transmission, coming off the Zest) could feature on the diesel variant in the future.
