Mahindra is readying a new variant of the Ssangyong Rexton called the RX6. The Rexton is currently available in two variants, RX5 and RX7. While the RX5 gets a manual transmission, the RX7 features an automatic gearbox and several additional features.

The RX6 is reported to come with all the features of the top-end RX7 such as electrically-adjustable seats with memory function, electric sunroof, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, leather upholstery, LED daytime running lights and all-wheel drive. However, the RX6 will get the RX5's 5-speed manual gearbox and the lower state of engine tune.

Rexton RX6 will get all the bells and whistles of the RX7, but without the automatic transmission.

Though the RX5 and RX7 are powered by the same 2.7-liter five-cylinder diesel engine, the RX5 develops 162 bhp and 340 Nm of torque, while the RX7 makes 184 bhp and 402 Nm of torque. The RX6 will sport identical specifications as the RX5.

The RX5 is priced at INR 18.87 lakhs while the RX7 costs INR 21.1 lakhs. Needless to say, the RX6 will be priced in between. [Note: Prices are ex-Showroom, New Delhi]

At the Auto Expo, Mahindra also showcased a 2.0-liter diesel variant of the Rexton, which could be introduced in the market later on as an entry-level variant. The Rexton 2.0L is powered by a 1,998 cc four-cylinder engine producing 153 PS and 360 Nm of torque paired to a 5-speed E-Tronic automatic transmission.
