The Mahindra S101 has once again been spotted testing in Chennai. Our reader Mr Ravi sent us these photographs of two S101 units being tested.

The Ford EcoSport rivalling S101's proportions are revealed relative to a Ford Figo that happens to be running alongside the test mules, as a benchmark vehicle.

One of the test vehicles features a rear view mirror only on the driver's side. The same test mule also has what looks like a hastily put together headlamp cluster, as prototypes have not neared the final phase of development. On the rear fascia, a horizontal traffic signal arrangement of three round lights make up the taillight cluster, which is also a stopgap fix.

Oddly, the test mules still seem to lack vital body panels like the rear bumper and the front bumper, for it looks nothing like a traditional Mahindra grille.

The S101 is based on an all-new monocoque chassis that Mahindra has developed in conjunction with Ssangyong. The model would also receive a petrol engine that is likely to be from a family of small gasoline engines, also developed with Ssangyong.

The five-seater SUV is most definitely a sub-4meter model, taking on the Ford EcoSport in India. It has been confirmed that the car will be launched in 2015.
