Buoyed by the demand for its latest offering, Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car maker is planning to double the production capacity of the Maruti Celerio. Currently, Maruti makes about 5,000 units of the hatchback per month, and the manufacturer hopes to increase this to 10,000 units per month.

Maruti has already contacted its vendors asking if they would be able to supply for double the planned production. Since the discontinuation of the Estilo and A-Star, Maruti has unutilized production capacity of 17,000 units per month, reports Economic Times. The newspaper says that the production of the Celerio will be increased by July this year.

The Celerio was launched at the 2014 Auto Expo last month and immediately went on to receive huge sales volumes, nearly about 1,000 bookings per day. Of the 20,000 plus bookings received for the Celerio, over half are for the automated manual transmission (AMT) variant.

The Celerio AMT is offered in the base LXi and VXi variants and is priced INR 38,000 more than the manual variants. Thanks to its robotized system, the AMT Celerio matches the manual Celerio in terms of fuel efficiency, which is rated by the ARAI at 23.1 km/l.

The proposed fuel efficiency is also not verified. The new customer are fearing that the responce is not favourable. The company has already stop production of Maruti 800
