Jaguar announced the name of its BMW 3 Series rival at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, while also providing a sketch of the sedan's front fascia. Our render artist, Shoeb, has created a mockup based on this sketch, thus giving our readers an early glimpse of what the Jaguar XE would look like.

The XE will be based on JLRs all-new iQ aluminium architecture. The architecture was previewed on the concept C-X17 crossover, though the XE will be the first production car from the brand to make use of it. Jaguar officials hint that by using this platform, the XE will not only be lightweight, but engineers can also achieve high levels of rigidity, thereby enhancing the handling of the sedan.

Power for the XE will come from a new range of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. The engine family, known as 'Ingenium', will offer fuel efficient, low CO2 emitting versions on one hand, while performance-oriented 300 km/h variants will be positioned higher up.

The baby Jag will be positioned below the XF, and will thus become the most affordable Jaguar. The XE will be revealed by the end of this year, while sales will not commence until mid-2015. Media reports estimate the sedan to be priced from 29,000 GBP (INR 29.52 lakhs).
