The Xcent is based on the Grand i10’s platform, the Dzire on the Swift’s platform and the Amaze on the Brio’s platform. All three cars measure under 4 meters in length with the Hyundai and Maruti measuring an identical 3,995 mm.

In terms of wheelbase, the Xcent measures 2,425 mm, the Honda at 2,405 mm and the Dzire has the longest wheelbase at 2,430 mm. However, the Amaze is much more spacious than the Dzire thanks to its clever packaging and we will wait until we drive the Xcent to comment about its interior space.

All three cars are powered by a 1.2-liter four-cylinder engine with variable valve timing (Hyundai calls it VTVT, Honda says i-VTEC and Maruti refers to it as VVT). The Amaze makes the most power at 88 PS, while the Xcent and Dzire are nearly matched on torque at about 114 Nm.

All cars are offered with an automatic transmission, with the Amaze being the only one to feature a 5-speed AT. Efficiency wise, the Xcent and Dzire are again evenly matched at 19.1 km/l (ARAI certified for MT). The Hyundai Xcent has all the bells and whistles to interest the young Executives. It will out strip the competition and force competitors to offer better trim levels !

I am in a dilemma to which car I want to purchase.maruti dezire , Hyundai scent, Honda amaze .all r petrol versions .my requirement is 100km per month. pl. reply?

    1. Srikanth says:

if its 100 km/month then the variant is so obvious that its petrol.

But, Xcent, which shares the same platform extension of Grand i10, is so poor a performer on highway.

Hence, if you 100 kms is predominantly city (should be city use as its only 100 km / month) then you can opt for Xcent. But if in case you travel on a highway with Xcent, do not be disappointed if a pulsar/R15 surpasses you with ease.

If you want to opt for a safe choice, i would suggest Dzire, but in terms of comfort, Xcent wins hands down compared to both Dzire and Amaze.

Service – Maruti better than Hyundai better than Honda.

You can now make a choice of your own based on the above.

Why not include Etios in the comparison mix?

    1. Hi, the Etios is not a sub-4m sedan and hence not included in this story.

      1. Mohit Verma says:

        And why Indigo not included????

  4. Premal says:

In petrol which to choose between Xcent and Amaze.

  5. Vikas says:

I think Honda Amaze (in Diesel) is the clear winner in Power Delivery, fuel efficiency, segment, After Sales Service is not that bad as if we compare to other struggling brands like Skoda,…..

  6. Vivek Nagpal says:

I personally feel that Hyundai Xcent Diesel is underpowered for its size. I am really doubtful about 1.1L 3 Cylinder engine. Similar thing happened when they launched i20 with 1.2L petrol engine which lacked power and muscle compared to the competition.
I still hope they must have tuned 1.1 L for sufficient power.. 🙂

  7. Anand says:

Great … you are too quick to give the comparison report. It gives an idea to the sedan buyer who upgrade their cars… Well done !!

  8. Dr radhakrishna says:

I am in a dilemma to which car I want to purchase.maruti dezire vdi, Hyundai scent, Honda amaze .all r deisel versions and abs, and music reply?

    1. Mani says:

Dear Mr. Radhakrishna, i think u shld hv to purchase Maruti dzire, bcz maruti vehicle are good in durability and spare nd service is cheap.

    2. Anand says:

after seeing these comparison, I would suggest Amaze, though it is lil bit higher (40-50k) than Xcent.

    3. Bagheerath says:

@ Dr Radhakrishna – Honda Amaze is the one you can go for….It has superior engine with great fuel economy. Should handle better than Xcent and Dezire. Xcent only score on equipment level, Dezire is never a value for money (I feel, they just clicked with multijet engines, apart for this nothing is gr8 abt it.)….Honda is always way ahead in engineering and reliability.

    4. Vikas Sahu says:

      Dear Dr Radhakrishna,

If your monthly running is more than 1500 KM, then I would suggest to go for Honda Amaze, since it has great diesel engine which produces 100 bhp and the good this is that is is fuel efficient. In Patrol you can choose from Xcent because it has got lotes of good features like rear ac bents, climatronic ac….
I would only suggest Desire, if you live in small town.

    5. Naveen singh rawat says:

      @ Dr. Radhakrishna –
people are smarter enough nowadays and they know what they want.
Its an part of our day today life and here everyone gives you there own views and ideas but its up to you with whom you want to go.
      We’r talking about car segment
my idea is to buy swift dzire vdi
      among s others
it not only have better class perhaps it also have good features.
you can see the comparison b/w them
and to be very honest you’r a doctor and definitely you wouldn’t go with things who directly affect your image so be sure before you buy ^_^
      good luck
